A&A Office Systems Uses AWS IoT Button For Supplies and Service

Posted on Dec 8, 2017

By now, you may have heard of Amazon's Dash Button. It's a small device with a single button that you can place in your home. Each Dash Button is linked to a product on Amazon, such as paper towls or laundry detergent. When you have run low on a given household product, you can press the button on the corresponding Dash and Amazon will dispatch that product to in two business days.

It was soon discovered that these little web connected buttons could be reconfigured and used for any number of things, such as ordering a favorite pizza, and Amazon began offering "white label" Dash Buttons through their Amazon Web Services division as an Internet of Things (IoT) device.

A&A Office Systems experimented with the AWS IoT Button in early 2017. We wanted to know if this simple button could create value for our customers at a low cost. The answer, as you may have gathered, is yes!

We configured it to be a quick method to request copier supplies or service. The Button carries customer, copier ID number and location information and sends an email to our service department requesting service if the Button is pressed once, or toner if the Button is held for three seconds.

Implementation has involved adjusting processes, custom cut labels and new branding (we refer to the button as Paige internally). So far, we've rolled out the Button to a select few locations in a kind of pilot program. We've found that customers testing the Button appreciate the convenience.
